Here is the hull glassed with an extra patch in the "football" area. I used 4 ounce cloth for both layers with Raka 127/350 epoxy. Things went remarkably smoothly for my first try.


I masked the shape of the football and layed on the extra layer so that it overlapped the masking tape. I made sure I wet out the cloth past the edge of the masking tape. When it had cured for several hours I lifted the edge of the tape and sliced the excess free. Made an extremely clean edge which I have subsequently feathered with a carbide paint scraper. Nothing original about my methods. Thanks to all the kayak builders who have thought up these great ideas and shared them freely. Make things much easier for first timers like me.
